Experience

Dr. Bruce Suprenant’s industry experience includes working as a structural engineer with Sverdrup & Parcel in St. Louis, a structural project manager with Lapin, Ellis and Dabler in St. Louis, an analytical structural engineer with the Portland Cement Association in Skokie, Illinois vice president engineering and technical services at Baker Concrete Construction, and vice president of Structural Services Inc., president of Concrete Engineering Specialists and technical director of the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC). He was also technical director and a principal at CTC-Geotek, a Denver materials testing and engineering firm. Suprenant was editorial director and vice president of R&D at The Aberdeen Group. For 15 years, he taught structures, construction and materials at Montana State University, the University of Wyoming, the University of South Florida and the University of Colorado – Boulder. Suprenant has served as an expert witness in the litigation and arbitration of concrete structures, construction and materials.

 

Activities

Dr. Suprenant is a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and is a member of ACI 302, 117 and 318. He authored a monthly column, “Everyday Issues” for ACI’s Concrete International magazine. Suprenant is the current chair for the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) technical review committee. He was the editor-in-chief of Forensic Engineering: the International Journal and Structural Engineering Practice, and engineering editor of Concrete Construction Magazine, The Magazine of Masonry Construction and Concrete Repair Digest. He was also the chair of the American Society of Civil Engineers Materials Engineering Division. Suprenant has published more than 200 papers and presented more than 200 lectures.

 

Honors and Affiliations

Dr. Suprenant is a member of the following organizations and honor societies: American Society of Civil Engineers, American Concrete Institute, Prestressed Concrete Institute, The American Concrete Pavement Association, American Society for Testing and Materials, Sigma Lambda Chi, Chi Epsilon, Pi Mu Epsilon and Sigma Xi. He is also listed in Who’s Who in Technology Today, Who’s Who in the World,  and American Men and Women in Science. He was awarded the ACI Roger H Corbetta award for innovation in concrete construction in 2010, received the ACI construction award for best paper in 2011 and was recognized by ACI Certification in 2013.

 

Education

B.S. in Construction from Bradley University, an M.S. in Structures from the University of Illinois and a PhD in Civil Engineering from Montana State University.
